In May, the school gardens are once again transformed into places of discovery, creation and learning. School Gardens Month encourages teachers to take ordinary activities such as reading, painting or exploring nature outside with their children. This year, the campaign focuses on breaking down the imaginary walls between the classroom and the garden, showing that outdoor learning is accessible and beneficial even in the day‑to‑day running of kindergartens.
"We really want teachers, parents and kindergarten children to exchange the classroom for the garden during May. Our experience in transforming gardens and promoting outdoor learning themes shows that even small steps can result in big changes with visible impact. In cooperation with our partners, we have therefore prepared inspiring and practical materials that will enable teachers and parents to spend more quality time outdoors with the children," says Luboš Veselý, Director of KKFF.
Outdoor Activity Challenges and Methodical Support
For this year's School Garden Month, we have prepared four thematic blocks in cooperation with friendly organizations and educational centers at kindergartens in Soběslav, Mnichovice and Telecí_
- Exploration
- Care
- Creation
- Gardening
Each block contains three specific challenges with detailed methodological descriptions to help kindergartens bring their regular activities into the outdoor environment. For example, teachers can try painting with a natural brush, filtering water and activities to care for plants and animals in the garden.
The methodological materials are designed to be comprehensible, practical and easy to use in the daily routine of the kindergarten. They offer concrete guidance on how to use the school garden as a place for educational activities ‑ whether it be creating, exploring nature or social learning through shared outdoor experiences. The aim is not to turn the kindergarten upside down, but to show that even small changes can have a big impact.
The challenges and methodological notebooks are free to download on the campaign website. In addition, participating kindergartens can enter the public map and compete for small prizes.
