SSIR is a nonprofit magazine and online platform dedicated to complex social challenges. It focuses on areas such as philanthropy, the nonprofit sector, public policy, education, and systemic social change.
The 2025 selection of inspiring stories features projects that are created and operate under demanding conditions. It includes initiatives addressing cooperation to increase social impact, affordable housing, models of civic leadership, and the protection and preservation of history. This last area is the focus of the Ark project, specifically its first and third phases in which the Foundation is involved.
The SSIR editorial team described the Ark project as a “pioneering initiative focused on protecting Ukrainian culture through the use of mobile technologies”, which fully aligns with how the KKFF Foundation defines its mission.
The Ark helps restore, conserve, and digitize cultural artifacts in the unstable environment of armed conflict.
To date, Ark I has restored 150 manuscripts and trained dozens of librarians in Ukraine to work with advanced technologies for the protection and restoration of cultural heritage.
While the mobile Ark I unit is already operating directly in the field in Ukraine, Ark III is entering the final stage of production. The vehicle is currently being equipped with specialized technologies for 3D digitization and, according to the plan, is scheduled to depart for Ukraine in the first quarter of 2026. Full operation in at risk areas is expected to begin in April 2026.
