What could school gardens look like in 2035? What needs to be done today in order to support their development? These were the main questions of the School Gardens 2035 Vision workshop, organised by the Karel Komárek Family Foundation on 30 September 2026 in cooperation with the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice and the city of České Budějovice.

WHEN

30 September 2026, 9:00–15:00

wh

The workshop took place as part of the European Sustainable Development Week. It focused on a shared discussion about the future of school gardens. Participants gained inspiration, practical ideas, and examples from best practice. They explored a vision for school gardens that responds to the needs of children, teachers, and the city.

The morning session offered several perspectives on the importance and potential use of school gardens. It presented their transformation and use as a learning environment, experience from practice, and the perspectives of an architect, a doctor, and a founding body.

The afternoon workshop createed space for joint work in smaller groups. The discussion focused, for example, on what school gardens need today, what kind of support teachers need, and how schools can share their experience.

The joint outcome of the workshop was a set of recommendations for the future development of school gardens in České Budějovice.
