We Helped Bring Life Back to Children’s Village in Hodonín

The renewal of Hodonín after the devastating tornado has moved forward with another completed project. A new Children’s Village has opened to the public in Bažantnice. The original site was almost completely destroyed by the tornado in 2021. The Karel Komárek Family Foundation was involved in the project, supporting both the preparation of the project documentation and the implementation itself.
Children’s Village was among the most severely damaged places in this part of Hodonín. The natural disaster practically razed the site to the ground. In cooperation with the Karel Komárek Family Foundation, the City therefore decided to completely restore it. The project preparation also included the involvement of local associations so that the new site would respond as closely as possible to the needs of the people who will use it.
The result is a modern space designed primarily for children and young people for sport, leisure, and other activities. At the same time, the architects sought to preserve the character of the original place. The simple buildings follow the traditional concept of a children’s camp and surround a central circular meadow. The cabins are set within a newly restored forest.
The construction part of the Children’s Village renewal cost approximately EUR 4.73 million. The City secured subsidies for the project from the Ministry for Regional Development and the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic totalling approximately EUR 2.95 million. The Karel Komárek Family Foundation significantly supported both the preparation of the project documentation and the construction of the village and the surrounding site.
The post‑tornado renewal also includes other places in Bažantnice. In the natural area known as Olšiny, a wooden boardwalk has been built to make the local wetlands accessible. The City is also gradually restoring paths in the suburban forest and adding new furniture, including benches and tables made from the wood of trees that fell during the tornado.
The restored paths improve movement through the area and make this part of Bažantnice accessible to visitors again. Together with the recently opened U Červených domků Park, the locality is gradually becoming a place for children, families, sport, leisure, and relaxation in nature.

It is an important symbol of Hodonín’s ability to recover from this difficult blow and look ahead.“

The buildings are therefore simple, and their layout follows the traditional concept of a children’s camp.
