Větrník Kindergarten in Nymburk

During the transformation, we brought long‑awaited new life into the garden in the form of the four elements, each governs its own zone, ideal for different forms of learning. The space is thus represented by earth, fire, water, and air.

About the Transformation

What we achieved

In the Garden of the Little Sprite Větrník, we supported the creation of many new areas and play features that now bring joy especially to the children. They make use of the outdoor classroom, the gathering circle, swings, playhouses, a tower, and even a space to enjoy messy play with mud. Větrník’s kingdom is full of variety and offers something for every child to explore. The results of the transformation are also appreciated by the teachers, who have noticed that the children have become calmer, more focused, physically stronger, and that their speech is clearer and more articulated.

The Garden of the Little Sprite Větrník underwent a complete transformation after our kindergarten won a grant in 2018. The goal of renewing our garden was to nurture a positive relationship with nature in the children. We wanted to spend more time outdoors with them, to use the entire garden rather than just 30% of it – to explore it, to discover it. We aimed to give children freedom and space, so they could develop in every way. Thanks to the transformation, our garden has become a play feature in and of itself. Children now have the space for free movement, for adventure, for imagination… they explore it with all their senses. The garden is used by: children, teachers, and parents, and also by the wider community. Our garden is open to everyone.

More about the transformation

The new garden has revitalized the outskirts of Nymburk. It is used daily by around 100 children and also serves as a meeting place for the local community. Children now have ideal conditions to explore nature with all their senses. They make use of raised garden beds and a well‑equipped outdoor space for complementary activities. They have access to magnifying glasses, microscopes, and field guides to plants and wildlife, to let them observe and study insects and small animals. The kindergarten also succeeded in securing additional funding from the city and from parents for this project.
