Na Okraji Kindergarten in Prague 6
The Prague 6 District Authority, in cooperation with the KKFF Foundation, transformed the garden of the Na Okraji Kindergarten in Prague 6. The redesigned garden is tailored to the needs of the school and offers a variety of natural elements that support children’s learning and play.

The redesign of the MŠ Na Okraji garden is being prepared by the studio ATELIER ROUGE, led by architect Jitka Tomsová.
Plans include water features, new greenery, areas for working with natural materials and a multifunctional play zone. The garden will serve not only as an outdoor classroom but also as a space for community gatherings.

The project brought water features, new greenery, areas for working with natural materials and a multifunctional play zone. The garden serves not only as an outdoor classroom but also as a space for community gatherings.
The revitalization gave the space a new identity, based on the recycling of existing elements and the addition of original play features and natural objects. The garden offers places for play, relaxation, and for children to meet with their parents. The aim of the project was not a complete reconstruction, but a sustainable reuse of valuable existing components, complemented by new original interventions.
New boards in the shape of animals now decorate the existing fencing and enhance the natural character of the kindergarten. Children’s sketches appear throughout the area as playful elements. In the central part, a new nature‑inspired play feature with terrain modelling and a tunnel invites children to explore.
Natural play elements, such as stump stepping paths, loose tree trunks and birdhouses, are spread across the entire garden. To create these features, we used wood from felled trees in cooperation with the Prague 6 Municipal District.
The concept also included small shelters where children can hide and store their belongings. One of the original sandpits became a platform for an outdoor classroom. A teepee provides a space for year‑round gatherings and also serves as an outdoor learning area. Planting boxes with an educational purpose stand near the kindergarten building.
The district received financial support of 61 700 EUR from the KKFF to carry out the garden transformation.
