The First Garden of Peace

We supported the creation of the first Garden of Peace in France, established to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. The project enhances public spaces in areas where Czech and Slovak soldiers fell. The garden serves as a place of remembrance while fostering international cooperation and dialogue.

About the Project

The Garden of Peace, located in the area of Neuville‑Saint‑Vaast, was completed in 2018. It was designed by young Czech and Slovak architects: Lenka Dřevjaná, Zuzana Němečková, and Miroslava Staneková.

The concept of the garden is based on a path that intersects the lawn space in several places. Striking features include massive oak benches and groups of linden trees, symbolizing the Czech and Slovak nations. The moving history of the site is evoked by the ruins of a church on the horizon, which was destroyed during the First World War.
