Establishment of Dvořáček and Janura Parks in Kamenický Šenov

The restoration of neglected public spaces and the creation of Dvořáček and Janura Parks helped restore a sense of pride to the citizens of the once‑famous glassmaking town.

About the Transformation

What we have accomplished

Kamenický Šenov, a town of four thousand inhabitants, lacked a well‑maintained public space. The areas where two beautiful parks now lie used to be an unsightly jungle. Together with the city, we transformed the neglected areas beyond recognition. We also involved the local community in the restoration, including choosing the new park names.

What was particularly remarkable was how the foundation involved elementary school children in the activities. Thanks to suitable activities, the parks became a part of their lives.

More about the transformation

The transformation was accompanied by successful participatory activities, during which the residents rediscovered their town's forgotten history and discussed the new park designs with architects from Atelier AND. The public helped choose the new park names through a survey and subsequent voting. The names commemorate two important teachers who once worked in Kamenický Šenov (Jan Dvořáček and Josef Janura).
