Aid for Senior Citizens

During the most challenging phase of the COVID‑19 pandemic, we supported organizations caring for seniors as well as the Senior Trust Helpline.

We helped hospices, nursing homes, organizations providing aids for the severely ill with home aid, as well as charities and pastoral care services offering field‑based caregiving. We also supported the operation of the Crisis Coordination Center of Život 90 and the Senior Trust Helpline. We assisted more than 150,000 seniors.

O projektu

From March 23 to April 27, 2020, we received nearly 300 applications from nonprofit organizations and approved more than 240 of them. We thus helped over 150,000 seniors. The assistance was primarily directed towards purchasing protective equipment, disinfectants, rewards for caregivers and social care workers, support for field workers, volunteer coordination, and projects aimed at engaging seniors.

In 2020, we also supported the organization Život 90. The contribution was intended to cover part of the costs associated with establishing a Crisis Coordination Center for seniors in Prague in cooperation with the city administration. The center aimed to assist seniors; the most at‑risk group, who faced difficulties with everyday tasks such as shopping, obtaining medication, and more, during the restrictions and health risks

When the pandemic broke out, our board of trustees quickly decided to provide assistance to the most vulnerable group in society – seniors. From the beginning of the crisis, we realized that many facilities and organizations working with seniors desperately needed immediate help. Because they often lacked it, we decided to offer it ourselves.

COVID‑19 changed the face of Sue Ryder just as a mask changes a person's face. We appreciate the speed and responsiveness with which the foundation responded to our request. The donation helped where it was most needed.
