Aid After the 2024 Floods

In response to the September 2024 floods, we launched a public fundraising campaign. A total of EUR 668,000 was directed to help affected families and volunteer fire brigades.

The floods, which struck mainly the Jeseník and Opava regions, led us to immediately announce a public collection. To support families affected by the floods, we contributed an initial EUR 41,000. The same amount was donated by Sazka. Our response to this extraordinary event was coordinated with other humanitarian organizations, towns, and municipalities, through which we distributed the funds.

O projektu

The September 2024 floods, among the worst in the history of the Czech Republic, triggered an unprecedented wave of support. Individuals and companies donated more than EUR 39 million to help those affected. Donors to our public collection contributed EUR 37,000  within three weeks. Sazka donated EUR 41,000.

Out of the total EUR 668,000, we allocated EUR 411,000 to support affected households. This amount was distributed among People in Need, ADRA, and the Diaconia of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren. Another EUR 257,000 went through towns and municipalities to support six volunteer fire brigades in the Jeseník region, which were particularly active. In addition to heavy fieldwork, their members also provided psychological support, while also dealing with damage to their own equipment and property.

Our response was coordinated with other humanitarian organizations, specifically People in Need, ADRA, and the Diaconia of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, which agreed on a unified approach to aid. Which meant that by the third week after the floods, they were able to distribute EUR 10.7 million among 5,200 households.

Thanks to the coordination and monitoring of humanitarian organizations in the areas affected by the 2024 floods, we could be sure that the funds dedicated to extraordinary assistance quickly reached families. On behalf of KKFF, I would like to thank all involved for their professional cooperation. In extraordinary situations, we find it most effective to support organizations working directly in the field or municipalities that know the local situation best.

Nonprofits remain active even after the disaster

Humanitarian teams from ADRA, People in Need, the Czech Red Cross, the Diaconia of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, and Caritas Czech Republic continue to help after the floods. They are assisting with home repairs, well cleaning, and financial support applications.

All the organizations involved have a long‑term goal of being well prepared for future emergencies. This is why they are thoroughly and continuously evaluating their activities in response to the floods. By doing so, they improve their future crisis response and strengthen cooperation between the nonprofit and public sectors.
